Cologix To Accelerate Expansion Of Its Hyperscale Edge Data Center Portfolio Under A New Name

Cologix has announced intentions to expand its ‘Hyperscale Edge Data‘ center portfolio, as well as a new brand under which to sell them.02-18-2022 - Cologix To Accelerate Expansion Of Its Hyperscale Edge Data Center Portfolio Under A New NameCologix presently runs three multi-tenant hyperscale data centers in Columbus, Ohio, and Montreal, Canada, totaling 440,000 square feet and 70 megawatts of power, according to the company.

The business said this week that it would create three more hyperscale data centers in Ashburn, Virginia, Columbus, Ohio, and Silicon Valley, California, totaling 1 million square feet and 200 megawatts of capacity.

Furthermore, Cologix has changed the name of its hyperscale facilities, which will now be known as Scalelogix.

Bill Fathers, who serves the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cologix, had the following to say:

As we support our customers’ growing businesses and continue to invest in the digital infrastructure that underpins the growth of the digital economy, Cologix will aggressively expand its hyperscale edge data center footprint. Scalelogix is Cologix’s answer to meet the growing needs for our customers.

Cologix broke ground on a 120MW hyperscale facility in Ashburn in late 2020 and a 40MW Ohio site in March 2021; therefore, some of the announcements appear to be rebranding rather than new projects.

Furthermore, Cologix was recapitalized last month by investment firm Stonepeak, with Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, exiting its ownership in the data center firm. Late last year, the business raised $1.1 billion using ABS notes.

Colo-D, a Montreal hyper-scale, was bought by the firm in late 2018. In 2018, Cologix opened the first phase of the 160,000-square-foot COL3 data center on its Scherer Court location, with the capacity to expand to 32MW.

Currently, the company only has one data center in Silicon Valley, a 9MW facility purchased by vXchnge last year. The facility, which covers 84,000 square feet (7,800 square meters), has enough space to construct another 10MW.

Equinix has a hyperscale brand called xScale, and the corporation has committed about $8 billion to establish hyperscale facilities in key metros throughout the world through a variety of collaborative ventures. Other colo and wholesale companies provide hyperscale services, although not under a distinct brand or offering.
