HostUpon is a privately owned company that has their offices in Toronto, Canada. They offer just about every type of hosting you could ask for, and do a pretty good job at it too. They have been in business for quite a long time, and have a good reputation for providing stable hosting that is both of high quality and affordable.
You’ll notice that many of the entry level hosting options come with some higher end features. Many customers won’t need some of these options, but it is nice to have them there just in case. Things like SSL certificates come included even with entry level shared hosting, which is often not the case.
Other than that, the company is quite similar to many others in terms of what types of things they offer and the general range of pricing. While they don’t stand out from the competition in any significant ways, they do offer good hosting at a very fair price, which is what most people will be looking for. Those who are targeting Canadian customers, or even those in the US will find a great hosting option with this company.
Uptime & Reliability
99.9% uptime guarantee for all hosting packages
HostUpon provides a 99.9% uptime guarantee across the board for all their packages. They don’t make it immediately obvious what happens if you drop below that level, but if it happens you just submit a ticket to get a discount on your next month of hosting.
Fortunately, they really don’t have too many outages so must customers will rarely, if ever, need to deal with this.
Looking through their social media support pages and other comments from current and former customers, there are very few complaints of outages or even slowness. This is, of course, a very good sign that they provide very stable hosting.
Quality hosting features even for entry level customers
This company offers a wide range of great features at all their package levels. They seemed to want to have an extensive base list of options for all their customers, with only a few extras for higher end hosting services. For example, everyone will benefit from the same 99.9% uptime guarantee, SSL certificates, cPanel, and more.
In addition to supporting the standard web features, they also provide assistance for things like Curl and Zend Optimizer, which are often things that other companies don’t work with.
As you move to different packages you will find that they have some unlimited options, and others that have limitations. Even those with limits, however, have them set so high that the average customer won’t ever run into issues. Overall, the features that are provided are at or above the average in the industry.
Good support but no live options
The tech support is provided by their team of Canadian technicians. They must be contacted through their online ticketing system, which is monitored 24/7. From all reports, it seems that they address tickets quickly and are able to get most problems resolved right away.
The one downside is that they don’t have any tech support phone number or a live chat option, which many people will miss.
Prices slightly lower than industry average
When you look through just about every package level you will find that the prices are slightly lower than what you will find at other companies. In most cases it is only a few dollars lower, if that, but still a good price.
For most people, the lower price won’t be enough to attract them on its own, but the fact that their overall services are also quite good will make this a great option for many people.
