Before we start, we would love to hear more about Time 4 VPS and its history. Can you tell us a bit more about that?
Valentinas:
was founded in 2003. As the company was among the first ones to offer high-quality VPS hosting at affordable prices, we quickly grew to serve more than 120 000 in more than 110 different countries.What were the challenges that you were facing as a start-up?
Valentinas: Competing with industry’s sharks having huge marketing budgets is one of the major challenges for all hosting start-ups. Of course, nowadays, we have our own data center located in the midpoint of Europe, Vilnius, which is a significant advantage. Nevertheless, if we want to extend our business overseas, the data center in Europe alone is not enough. So, the biggest challenge is the lack of server locations. However, by having a Tier III data center in Vilnius, we do everything to be the best VPS hosting provider in Europe.
What are the main products and services of Time 4 VPS?
Valentinas: From our brand name you can immediately see that we’re a VPS hosting provider. So the primary services are Linux VPS, Windows VPS, Container VPS. Also, more and more customers discovered our VPN service after we launched an app for Android as well as for Windows. A VPN app for iOS is on its way, too!
A lot of the customers are not familiar with hosting or with VPS servers. What is your approach with them?
Valentinas: We do not offer shared hosting services, so our customers and target audience are developers and system administrators. Usually, they are highly skilled and already familiar with VPS hosting. Our servers are self-managed, so they are responsive to the server’s configuration.
A lot of customers think that VPS and dedicated servers are the same things. Can you tell us the difference between those two terms?
Valentinas: It’s a common question. To put it in a nutshell, the VPS is easier to use. The customer doesn’t have to worry about hardware because we take care of it. They are setting up the raid, tracking faulty hardware parts. VPS is easier to scale, and you only need to upgrade it through the client area: that’s it. You don’t have to wait to be migrated to better hardware or change it yourself.
system administrators also take care of hardware security upgrades and firmware upgrades, so VPS is easier to maintain for admin.Why do customers need to choose VPS over dedicated servers?
Valentinas: All the benefits listed above and of course, it’s cheaper.
What is the unique selling point that Time 4 VPS is different from the competition?
Valentinas: Being a small company is a challenge but at the same time is a significant advantage. We’re flexible. Customers can stay with us for as long as they need to. It’s a bonus for short-term side-projects – customers don’t have to commit or sign a contract for a specific period in order to have their VPS server. Also, we offer the same quality servers as the big industry’s players. We have our own Tier III data center, and security is our top priority. And of course, we’re proud of our customer support team that is highly skilled and knows how to handle server administration issues.
Most companies are focused on growth and introducing new products that will help them expand their business. How Time 4 VPS is standing in that field? What are your plans for introducing new services and products in near future?
Valentinas: As I have already mentioned, the new VPN app for iOS users will be introduced soon. Also, just a few weeks ago, by cooperating with our partner company Hostek, we launched a new security audit service. It involves an IT security expert examining the existing IT infrastructure of a client. Security experts will identify potential vulnerabilities and provide an action plan on managing these risks.
Finally, we’re following trends and looking back to our customers’ needs through a regular massive survey that we conduct annually. For now, we can see that the greatest demand is for new VPS locations, snapshots, pre-installed apps, and managed services.
Where do you see Time 4 VPS in the next 5 years?
Valentinas: That’s simple: offering easy-to-manage solutions where Time4VPS customers won’t need to be sys-admin to enjoy VPS benefits.
We have to mention the Covid-19 pandemic. How does this pandemic has affected Time 4 VPS in the past year?
Valentinas: Probably as in the case of every VPS or web hosting provider, it has led to higher sales. More businesses are transferring to the cloud and searching for convenient solutions they could offer to both their customers and employees. So we simply try to meet the demand.
