These rules ensure that your site is a good fit for the program, and as long as you stick to them, you’ll be well on your way to approval.

So, next, I went straight to the application to see how easy it would be to get started. The process is simple and intuitive, and I was able to dive right in without any confusion.

Here’s how it all went:

Step 1: Sign Up

To get started, go to the AWS Affiliate Program homepage and look for the “Sign Up” button at the top or bottom of the page. It’s a simple call-to-action that kicks off the application process.

Once you click the Sign Up button, you’ll be redirected to the Amazon Associates sign-up page, where you’ll need to either log in with your existing Amazon account or create a new one.

If you already have an Amazon account, simply log in using your email and password. This will save you time, as you don’t need to create a new account from scratch.

If you don’t have an Amazon Account yet, you’ll just need to click the “Create your Amazon account” button. This will open a registration page where you’ll be prompted to enter basic information, like:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Password

Once you’ve filled in your details, click “Create your Amazon account” to finalize the process. Afterward, you’ll be redirected back to the Amazon Associates homepage, where you can continue your application.

Step 2: Enter Your Personal Details

Now that your Amazon account is ready, it’s time to fill out your personal details. You’ll be taken to the Account Information page, where you need to enter your name, address, phone number, and other contact details.

You’ll also be asked to select the primary contact for the account. Typically, this is you, but if someone else is handling your affiliate account, you can choose them as the payee. 

If everything looks good, click Next to proceed.

Next up, you’ll need to provide details about the websites or mobile apps you plan to use for promoting AWS products. This is an important step, as Amazon wants to ensure that you’re sharing your affiliate links on legitimate platforms that comply with their guidelines.

In the Website and Mobile App List section, you’ll be asked to add the URLs for the websites, blogs, or social media profiles where you’ll be promoting AWS services. This could be:

 Before you click Next, Amazon needs you to declare whether any of your traffic sources are directed primarily at children under 13. These traffic sources are not eligible to display banners, widgets, special links, or other ads from Amazon Associates.

Step 4: Build Your Profile

Now comes the part where you set up your Amazon Associates profile. Here, you’ll need to:

  • Create your Associate ID: This ID will be used to track your affiliate earnings. You can either use your name or the name of your website for this ID. It’s important because it will show up in the affiliate links you generate, so choose something that’s easy to remember. 
  • Describe the content you create: Amazon will ask you to briefly explain the type of content you create on your platforms. For example, you could describe your blog as a tech review site or your Instagram as a tech influencer page. This helps Amazon understand what you’ll be promoting, and ensures you’re a good fit for their program. 
  • Pick your content category: Depending on what you create, you’ll be asked to choose the category that best describes your content. Some examples include:

    • Deal hunting and coupon sharing 
    • Niche topics like cloud computing (which fits perfectly for AWS)

Once you’ve filled in these details, you’ll need to read and accept the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement. It’s important to review this document to ensure you understand the program’s rules before moving forward.

When you’re ready, click Next to move on to the next step.

Step 5: Review and Next Steps

After completing Step 4, I was taken to a page where I was welcomed with the message: “Congrats, XXXX!” This was Amazon’s way of acknowledging my application and providing me with my unique Associate ID. They informed me that my application would be reviewed once I referred qualified sales to Amazon, and if I hadn’t made any qualifying sales within 180 days, my application would be withdrawn, and I would lose access to Associates Central.

At this point, I was granted full access to Associates Central, the platform that helps affiliates manage their accounts, track earnings, and generate affiliate links. I could log in to Associates Central 24 hours a day to explore all the available tools and resources.

There was a reminder to disclose my relationship with Amazon when sharing affiliate links with my audience, and I was directed to the Help content for more details on how to properly disclose this information.

Additionally, Amazon encouraged me to follow their social media accounts, where they share tips, tutorials, and trending promotions to help affiliates succeed.

Right below this, there was an important section: Enter Your Payment and Tax Information. At this point, you’ll be prompted to provide your payment preferences (e.g., direct deposit, gift card, or check) and tax details. You can either enter this information right away or choose to fill it out later.

If you decide to skip this for now, that’s perfectly fine. However, keep in mind that you’ll need to provide this information before you can start receiving payments. It’s a good idea to complete this part sooner rather than later, so you’re all set when those commissions start rolling in.

Now that you’ve met the basic requirements and signed up for the AWS Affiliate Program, it’s time to focus on getting approved. While you may have already checked off the eligibility boxes, the approval process is an important next step to ensure that you’re ready to start earning commissions.

  • Avoid Inactive Websites or Apps: Amazon has a strict rule when it comes to inactive or poorly maintained websites. Your site needs to show consistent updates and provide valuable content to your readers.

How Long Does It Take to Get Approved?

After submitting your application, Amazon will review your site. Typically, it takes about 1-3 business days for them to approve you.

During this time, they check that your site meets all the content guidelines and that it’s a good fit for the program. If you don’t make any sales within the first 180 days, your application will be rejected, but you can always apply again.

Overall, I found the AWS Affiliate Program application process to be very straightforward. Amazon has set up a clear and easy-to-follow system that’s perfect for creators and bloggers who want to start earning.
